Meet my WHY
Meet my momma
The reason you can even visit this blog is because she believed in me so fiercely, and what I would do in her honor.
This is my beautiful momma, Kathie. She’s been permanently cancer free for almost a year and a half.
She turned 70 the year she died, and not only was she outwardly and inwardly stunning at 70, she was a fierce fighter until the last moments of her life.
She was compassionate. She was loving. She was a nurse. She was an artist. She was feisty and stubborn. She was the epitome of a great mom. She was one of my very best friends.
She was a Meem (grandma) like no other. She put my family above anything else in her life, even cancer. If we needed her she just knew… and come hell or high water, she loved and supported us.
I don’t say all this because she’s no longer with us. I said this when she was alive and I’ll keep saying it.
Most of all, she is still with me. She is a part of me. She is a part of my wife. We can see her in both of our kids. She has forever changed who we are for the better. I hope once the grief dissipates a little, we are truly able to focus on her impact on our lives and to move forward as we honor her wish: “please live your life.”
Not one day goes by that I don’t talk to her, reference her, say ‘I love you’ out loud, or talk about her to complete strangers.
For the rest of my life, I still have a mom. The only difference is our relationship is now long distance.
I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again….

EFF YOU CANCER
I’ll never give cancer the power to take away my happy memories, dull my spirit, nor will I dishonor my mom’s legacy by not living my life.
I love you forever momma, with every breath I take.
